How We Verify Facilities

Aggregators are for discovering candidates, never for confirming facts — here's exactly how our verification works.

Senior care directories online are full of stale, wrong, or simply invented listings — closed facilities still marked "open," aggregator brand names that operators themselves stopped using years ago, and cost or rating figures nobody actually measured. Our verification standard exists specifically to keep that kind of error out of this site.

What we verify, and where

For every facility listed on this site, we confirm the name, address, and care type directly against the operator's own website — never an aggregator's page alone. Aggregators (Yelp, Seniorly, SeniorCareAuthority, and similar directories) are useful for discovering candidates worth researching, but they are never treated as a source of truth for a fact that appears on this site. We do not publish bed counts, license numbers, specific pricing, or star ratings for any facility unless the operator itself publishes that information on its own site.

A documented rejection log

We keep a record of candidates we researched and excluded, and why — a documented rejection is as valuable as an accepted listing, because it's evidence the standard was actually applied rather than skipped to hit a count. Two examples from our own research:

  • Lockport Presbyterian Home (305/327 High St, Lockport) — confirmed via a November 2025 news report that the building was redeveloped into "Chase Commons," a market-rate apartment complex. It is no longer an operating senior-care facility, even though multiple aggregators still listed it as active — a stale-listing trap we would have repeated without direct verification.
  • "Peregrine's Landing" (Cheektowaga and Orchard Park) — several directories still use this name, but the operator's own site brands these communities "Peregrine Senior Living at Cheektowaga" and "at Orchard Park." We list each under its current, operator-confirmed name rather than the stale aggregator name.

We also excluded candidates where an operator's own site simply didn't publish enough to confirm basic facts — for example, a Buffalo facility whose operator site confirmed its name and general location but never published a retrievable street address on its home, about, or contact pages was left off our list rather than filled in from an aggregator's address alone.

Why this matters for your family

A facility that looks great in an aggregator listing can be closed, renamed, or simply wrong in ways that only surface once you call or visit. Our standard is designed so that if this site lists a facility, its name, address, and care type are things we've confirmed the operator itself currently states — not something we copied from a directory that hasn't been updated in years.
