About Buffalo Senior Advisor

Free to families, funded by the communities we refer to — here's how that works and why it doesn't change what we publish.

Buffalo Senior Advisor is a free senior care referral service for families across Erie and Niagara Counties, New York. We help families compare licensed assisted living, memory care, nursing home, and in-home care options, understand what New York actually requires of a licensed facility, and get a straight answer on what Medicaid, Medicare, and VA benefits will and won't pay for.

How we're funded

This site is free to families because senior living communities pay us a referral fee if a family we introduce ultimately moves in. There is never a cost to a family for using this site, talking with an advisor, or getting matched with options — and a family is never obligated to choose any community we introduce them to. This is the same funding model used by most senior care referral services nationally; we disclose it plainly because families deserve to know how a "free" service actually works.

Why the funding model doesn't change what we publish

Our factual content — New York's licensing framework, CareScout's published cost data, Medicaid and VA program rules — comes from the state's own regulations and named, citable sources, not from any community's marketing material. Our facility listings follow a documented verification standard: name, address, and care type confirmed directly on the operator's own website, never from an aggregator alone. Read our full editorial standards →. A community paying a referral fee for an introduction has no influence over whether we list it, what we say about New York's rules, or what a CareScout survey actually reports.

Our focus

We cover Erie and Niagara Counties specifically — the Buffalo metro, from the City of Buffalo and its inner-ring suburbs out to Niagara Falls and Lockport. We don't try to cover the whole country, or even all of New York State; that focus is what lets us verify facilities directly, cite Erie and Niagara-specific agencies (like the Region 15 Long Term Care Ombudsman and each county's Adult Protective Services unit) by name and phone number, and keep our content genuinely local rather than swapped in from another state's research.
